A Free WordPress Block Theme for Non-Profits and Community Causes
Every non-profit, charity, and community fundraiser eventually runs into the same problem: they need a website that does more than look nice. It has to explain the mission in plain language, show real impact, and make the next step — donate, volunteer, get in touch — obvious. Most WordPress themes weren’t designed with that job in mind.
StoryImpact is. It’s a free, GPL-licensed block theme built for non-profits, charities, NGOs, environmental groups, community fundraisers, and social enterprises, and it’s currently under review for the official WordPress.org theme directory. Its tagline says it plainly: Share your cause. Amplify your impact.
Why I built it
A cause’s website is often a stranger’s first impression of the organization. It should feel trustworthy, be readable by as many people as possible, and gently turn attention into action. Those three ideas shaped every decision in StoryImpact:
- Trustworthy. A calm, confident look that never feels templated or cluttered.
- Accessible. Strong color contrast, clear typography, visible keyboard focus, and a skip-to-content link, because a message people can’t read or navigate is a message that doesn’t land.
- Action-oriented. Donate buttons, calls to action, and next steps placed where visitors actually look for them.
What’s included
Eight ready-made patterns
Instead of starting from a blank page, you can drop these sections straight into any page from the block inserter and replace the placeholder text and images with your own:
Hero with Donate Call-to-Action
a headline, short mission statement, two buttons, and a photo.
Impact Stats
a row of key numbers (people served, programs run, years of work) with simple icons.
Mission Story
a photo-and-narrative split for telling your origin story.
Causes Grid
three cards for the programs or campaigns you run.
Donate Banner
a high-contrast mid-page push toward giving.
Testimonial
a supporter or volunteer quote styled as a real pull-quote.
Latest Stories
a curated three-post preview with a link to your full blog.
Contact Info
email, phone, and address, with a clear note on where to add a contact form.
Colors and type that get out of the way
The palette — Deep Forest, Impact Rust, Warm Sand, Sage Mist, Ink, and White — was chosen for contrast first. Deep Forest text on white measures better than 11:1, and white text on the Impact Rust buttons clears 5.9:1, both comfortably above the WCAG AA threshold. Typography uses system font stacks, so there are no font files to download and no requests to third-party servers. Every color, font size, and spacing value is editable from the Site Editor.
Built for real sites, not just demos
- A mobile menu that behaves. Submenus collapse by default and expand with a tap, with large, comfortable tap targets and clear parent/child hierarchy.
- Polished navigation details. Numbered pagination appears as clean pills with the current page highlighted, and the previous/next post links on single posts are full-card click targets.
- Friendly to the plugins you’ll add. Donation, contact-form, and newsletter plugins usually output plain form fields and buttons. StoryImpact gives those baseline styling that matches the rest of the site, so a donation form doesn’t look bolted on.
- What you see is what you get. The block editor matches the front end, so patterns look the same while you’re editing as they do when published.
- Right-to-left ready. Layout rules use logical properties, so the design mirrors correctly for RTL languages.
Under the hood
- Full-site-editing block theme driven by
theme.json - Requires WordPress 6.6 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer
- No bundled JavaScript libraries, no icon fonts, no analytics, no tracking, and no cookies set by the theme
- Respects the reduced-motion preference for visitors who ask for less animation
- Passes the WordPress Theme Check plugin with no issues
- Licensed GPLv2 or later
What it deliberately doesn’t do
StoryImpact doesn’t bundle a donation processor or a contact-form builder. That isn’t a missing feature — it’s a design decision. Functionality like that belongs in a plugin, so it keeps working if you ever change themes, and so the theme stays light and fast. Pick the donation or forms plugin that suits your organization, and StoryImpact will make it look at home.

It’s free, GPL-licensed, and translation-ready. If you build something with it, I’d genuinely like to see it.
Built by Bikram
I'm a WordPress theme and plugin developer publishing on WordPress.org as [bikram_sth](https://profiles.wordpress.org/bikram_sth/).
StoryFrame joins a growing set of themes I've built and taken through full submission and review cycles — including StoryPress, a news and magazine theme, and StoryWeave, a literary blog theme with five layout modes and built-in dark mode. On the plugin side, I've built a GDPR cookie consent banner and a Cash-on-Delivery order verification plugin for WooCommerce, both approved on WordPress.org.
I test everything on real devices, chase down bugs reviewer feedback surfaces rather than just checklists, and iterate until it's actually right — not just technically passing.
